Internet on Strike!
On Jan 24th, the US Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill - PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House - to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity.
Even if you do not lieve in the USA, like myself, it’s just a matter of time that internet censorship will come our way! stop it now!
This is why I chose my blog to participate to the internet strike today!

Στις 24 Ιανουαρίου η κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ σκοπεύει να ψηφίσει νομοσχέδιο που αφορά τη λογοκρισία στο internet, αν και η πλειοψηφία των Αμερικανών πολιτών είναι εναντίον.
Προκειμένου να διατηρηθεί το δικαίωμα όλων στον ελεύθερο λόγο και στην ιδιωτικότητα τα νομόσχέδια PIPA και SOPA πρέπει να σταματήσουν.
Ακόμα και αν δε διαμένουμε στις ΗΠΑ είναι θέμα χρόνου να εφαρμοστεί κάτι παρόμοιο και στην Ευρώπη. Πρέπει να σταματήσει τώρα!
Γι’ αυτό το λόγο συμμετέχω με το blog μου στην κίνηση “το internet απεργεί”

Είναι πάντοτε συγκινητικό όταν φωτογραφίζεις γάμους φίλων σου…
Γνωρίζω τον Άρη από τότε που ως σκανδαλιάρικο πιτσιρίκι προσπαθούσε να βρει “δημιουργικούς” τρόπους να περάσει το χρόνο του στους προσκόπους ή μεγαλώνοντας να βρει το θέμα για την επόμενη διατριβή του, ένα αληθινά ανήσυχο πνεύμα…
Είμαι σίγουρη ότι πλέον βρήκε αυτό που έψαχνε δίπλα στη γλυκιά και πάντα ήρεμη Άννα…
Εύχομαι η ζωή τους να είναι γεμάτη αγάπη και όμορφα όνειρα…
Capturing old friends’ weddings is always touching…
This is the case for Aris + Anna… I know Aris since he was just a little “adventurous” kid in the boy scouts, always trying to cover some mischief or trying to find another yet subject for his next thesis as he grew up, a truly restless spirit…
I am positive that now, next to the sweet and calm Anna has found exactly what he was searching for.
I wish them the stars!

Καλή Χρονιά…. Happy New Year!
Πρέπει να ομολογήσω ότι το 2011 ήταν καλό μαζί μου… έζησα νέες εμπειρίες, έβαλα καινούργιους, ενδιαφέροντες ανθρώπους στη ζωή μου, αγάπησα και αγαπήθηκα, έμαθα πολλά για τον εαυτό μου. Με λίγα λόγια είμαι ευγνώμων…
Λένε ότι το 2012 θα είναι μία από τις δυσκολότερες χρονιές εξαιτίας της λεγόμενης παγκόσμιας οικονομικής κρίσης, γι’ αυτό και θα επιμείνω: μείνετε αισιόδοξοι… μη δακρύσετε γι’ αυτά που σας παίρνουν, αλλά χαρείτε γι’ αυτά που δεν μπορούν να σας πάρουν: την οικογένεια, τους αληθινούς φίλους, το πνεύμα σας, τις ιδέες σας, τα συναισθήματα… μείνετε περήφανοι και φανείτε αλληλέγγυοι με όσους το έχουν ανάγκη… μοιραστείτε την αγάπη!
Εύχομαι η νέα χρονιά που έρχεται να είναι γλυκιά σαν την άχνη στους σπιτικούς κουραμπιέδες και μη ξεχνάτε να χαμογελάτε… υπάρχουν πάντα λόγοι!
I have to say that 2011 treated me fairly nice… I got to live new experiences, I met new interesting people, I got loved and gave some love back, I learned a lot about myself. In other words I am grateful…
Since 2012 is said to be one of the hardest years ever seen because of the so called worldwide economic crisis, I insist on this: keep being optimistic… don’t shed a tear about the things that are taken from you, be happy about the things that cannot be taken from you: your family, real friends, your spirit, ideas, emotions… be proud and helpful with people that need it… share the love!
I hope the new year that is about to come (at least at this side of the planet) will be full of sweetness as sugar on cookies, spread it and don’t forget to smile, there are plenty of reasons…

Ορισμένες φορές αισθάνομαι παραπάνω από τυχερή που επέλεξα να γίνω φωτογράφος… Μία από αυτές ήταν η γνωριμία μου με την κ. Π. Κολλιαλή και μέσω αυτής η “γνωριμία” μου με την πλούσια παράδοση των Ελληνικών παραδοσιακών φορεσιών. Πρέπει να ομολογήσω ότι νωρίτερα, δεν είχα ιδιαίτερη επαφή με τις παραδοσιακές στολές της πατρίδας μας, εκτός από την απλή παρατήρησή τους σε εθνικές ή τοπικές γιορτές που έτυχε να παρευρίσκομαι. Η ευκαιρία να γνωρίζω την κάθε φορεσιά ξεχωριστά, να αγγίξω τα υφάσματα, να θαυμάσω τις λεπτομέρειες με συνεπήρε… γοητέυτηκα κα μαγεύτηκα! Δεν είχα πραγματικά ιδέα τι τέχνη και τι νοήματα κρύβουν, τι μεράκι χρειάζεται για να τις δημιουργήσεις τι περίτεχνα υλικά και διαδικασίες… ανήκουν επάξια στον πλούτο της χώρας μας…

Sometimes I feel really lucky to be working as a photogapher… One of these moments was my acquaintance with Mrs. P. Kolliali and through her my “acquaintance” with the rich culture of the Greek traditional costumes. I have to confess that before this project my knowledge about them stopped at their observation during national or local celebrations. The opportunity I had to see them up close, to touch the fabrics, to observe the details overwhelm me… I was charmed and fascinated! I had really no idea of the art and the meanings they hide… what kind of passion is needed to create them, along with the elaborate materials and techinques… no wonder they are part of Greece’s cultural wealth!

Γι’ αυτό και το δωμάτιο της μικρής της πριγκίπισσας φτιάχτηκε με πολλή αγάπη, μεράκι και DIY αντικείμενα… Χάζευα ώρα το δωμάτιο της μπέμπας πριν αποφασίσω να κάνω το πρώτο κλικ… και χάρηκα πολύ όταν η αγαπημένη Chichipiru ανέβασε τις φωτογραφίες μου στο blog της…

a trip to the fresh market…
Πριν από λίγες εβδομάδες ήμουν τυχερή και ο ταλαντούχος Nomad Chef Ανδρέας Λαγός με ξενάγησε σε μία από τις ωραιότερες λαϊκές αγορές στο κέντρο της Αθήνας… Χρώματα, φρεσκάδα, λογής-λογής άνθρωποι να διαλέγουν τα ζαρζαβατικά και φρούτα της εβδομάδας. Παραγωγοί να παινεύουν τα προϊόντα τους και να παραβγαίνουν σκωπτικά τον απέναντι “ανταγωνιστή”…Ως μπόνους, ένα μικρό ταξιδάκι στην κεντρική αγορά της Βαρβακείου… εκεί γεμίζουν όλες οι αισθήσεις… όχι μόνο τα μάτια σου, η μύτη σου, ο ουρανίσκος σου αλλά και η ακοή σου: άνθρωποι από κάθε εθνικότητα διαλέγουν, αγοράζουν, φωνάζουν, σε μία αγορά που μπορείς να βρεις οτιδήποτε ποθεί η καρδιά σου ή η κοιλιά σου… ;]
Φύλαξα προσεκτικά τις συμβουλές και πληροφορίες του Ανδρέα για τη διαλογή και τις ποικιλίες και τώρα δε μένει παρά να τις εφαρμόσω…
Few weeks ago, I was lucky and the talented Nomad Chef Andreas Lagos showed me around in one of the best fresh markets down town Athens… Colors, freshness, and all kind of people choosing their veggies and fruits for the week. Producers praising their offsprings and kidding with the competition to attract customers… As a bonus trip we went as well to the Central Fresh Market of Athens on Athina’s street. It’s the place where all your senses become awake … your eyes, nose, palate…even your ears: people from all around the world are choosing, buying, shouting in a market where you can find whatever your heart or your belly desires… ;]
I kept carefully all the info and tips that Andreas gave me regarding choosing fresh materials and I cannot wait to put them into practice…
Ο Ανδρέας έχει πάθος με την κουζίνα και καταφέρνει να μεταδώσει άριστα αυτήν την αγάπη στη δουλειά του, δημιουργούντας μέσω της frugal gourmet φιλοσοφίας του: μεταμόρφωση των απλών καθημερινών αλλά ποιοτικών υλικών σε κάτι μαγικό.

This year was quite difficult and strenuous for everybody… but I am grateful for the experiences, the lessons and the new people that I got to meet in my life.
Optimism is always they key and the phrase “keep dreaming” is the one to remember for the new year to come.

a Christmas tree made of milk…
The last couple of years Greece is in a big turmoil because of the so-called “economic crisis”. A lot have been said through the media in favour and mainly against my country… some are true, other not so…
The one true story is that the number of people under the level of poverty, having great difficulties acquiring basic things or even living on the streets is doubled since last year.
Fortunately, if I am allowed to say that word, I feel that people came closer to each other. They have started not to see each other in the hands or in the pockets but in the eyes and efforts of solidarity have strengthen and intensified.
One of these efforts was organised by the Medicins du Monde and Atenistas with the goal to create a single Christmas tree made of milk. The idea was inspired last year when a little girl asked a doctor if Santa Claus can bring her some milk…
Yesterday, the tree was not one but three and as Atenistas told us through their facebook status the amount of milk and provisions they gathered was doubled since last year!
I am not happy with the overall situation but greatly disappointed. I know that this is only the beginning and things will get worse for a long long time before getting better. But I can feel a tiny little bit of warmth and a scent of hope when I see that I can count on people…
